Key Stage 3

KS3 Syllabus

The Art department offers a broad and varied discipline including 2D and 3D aspects of art craft and design and teaches these in a coherent and structured way. The department has expertise in a cross section of art disciplines and this diverse approach is crucial to developing the potential of each student.

Students study two main projects each year following the KS3 syllabus which provides breadth of knowledge and progression through the key stage. Individual workshops are also provided at various times throughout the year in relation to new techniques, current exhibitions, competitions and with visiting artists as appropriate. Students do a baseline test at the start of Year 7 and they are expected to make a whole level of progress each year throughout the key stage. Students complete Extended Learning Projects twice a year to support the whole college focus of improving independent learning.

Our aim for Key Stage 3 is to prepare students for GCSE and create an environment that encourages creativity, builds confidence and advances students’ skills and techniques in order for them to reach their full potential. We provide a productive and critical framework, developing students’ visual vocabulary through the use of discussion questioning and evaluation, enabling them to produce informed pieces of art.
