Governing Body

The Community College Whitstable has a hybrid governance structure – the Circle Model (with link/monitoring governors, or ‘folder holders’ as they are known), together with a Standards Committee and a Resources Committee.

Role of a Governor

Our governors are from many different backgrounds and professions.  As part of the role, a governor will:

  • have an interest in education and wish to support the students and staff of the college;
  • attend meetings and get involved;
  • attend training opportunities;
  • work co-operatively with a common purpose to get the job done;
  • have mutual respect and tolerance for different points of view;
  • work to identify, evaluate and prioritise issues;
  • encourage qualities of leadership and delegation;
  • have an awareness of the values of the college, its aims and objectives;
  • respect all governing body decisions and to support them in public;
  • be prepared to listen and challenge;
  • have a sense of humour;
  • take a common sense approach;
  • establish a balance between achieving the task, keeping team spirit and motivation high, and valuing the contribution of the individual.
